I'd slightly favor Mayweather by UD but I think it is too tough of a call to say either fighter would definitively win right now. PBF has been on a long layoff and their is speculation that the layoff stems from an injuried shoulder. Meanwhile Cotto needs to prove that he has mentality recovered from his defeat against Margarito. Stylistically I think this is an awsome matchup because both fighters are skilled in multiple facits. I would heavily be rooting for Cotto who is one of my favoritye fighters but as a boxing fan I would just be happy for the sport if this fight ever gets made.

Cotto is a one handed fighter

He's a lefty that fights out of the orthodox stance, he uses his left hand too much and can't disguise it using his other hand.

He also doesn't have any defense for the right hand ... if you look through his history he has been hit a ton by the right hand ...

    Margarito
    Mosley
    Malignaggi
    Torres
Gomez (caught him with a couple)
Urkal (caught him with a couple)

Mayweather's money punch is the right hand and he throws it many different ways from different angles and speeds.
Mayweather will land his right hand whenever he wants to.

Add to that Mayweather's body punching would wear Cotto down --

Cotto would work more but get countered plenty. Cotto would try and pressure and would outwork him but Floyd would just faint and counter. I want to say Cotto UD but have a feeling it would be Mayweather by UD. I think if Cotto switched between orthodox and southpaw throughout, keeping Mayweather gueesing, he would have a good chance.

Floyd just too skilled for him. Cotto would get countered and knocked down

Hey Cotto what you think about a fight with Mayweather?

"I'm not a promoter, I leave that up to my team" <----- initial facial reaction, FEAR !!

Floyd what you think about fighting Miguel Cotto?

"I would love to fight Miguel Cotto ... he knows whats up ... he fights a Zab Judah who had 300 something days off and gets busted up and taken to the 11th round"

Cotto is being very underrated here.

He's been called 'plodding' on several occasions. This is the guy that consistently beat Mosley to the punch over 12 rounds. This is a guy who's speed held up against Zab Judah, whom it is said is the fastest ww in the land.

I think this fight would depend on how Cotto fights. If he were to go looking for Floyd, he would eat right hand after right hand on his way in. If he boxed on the back foot like he did in the latter rounds against Mosley, he could well win. Floyd eats pressure fighters alive, if you draw him out of his shell though, as Zab shown for a few rounds in their fight, then Floyd can be very vunerable.

I go for Cotto boxing smart and taking a U/D victory.

Is this a Gayweather " Lovefest " thread?

I know you are not serious in thinking that Gayweather has the cajones
to step into the ring with Cotto.

I guess you forgot Floyds answer when Cotto was seeming like the only fight for him: "Im gonna retire from boxing, im not gonna let boxing retire me"
Of all people, I would never expect a joyboy to have anything to say about someone ducking somebody, not after he punked out of so many fights.
And your insane if you think he's gonna tko Cotto after he couldnt even get Zab out of here, nuthugging ******

Cotto is ridiculously overrated on here - must be a theme with PR boxers, because Trinidad is as well.

Cotto would be outfought both on the inside and outside.... and would be hit with hard counters all night long.

His stamina is questionable, as are his chin and defence - if Torres can have him ready to be taken out.... Floyd would manage it around the 9th round.

Take away his left hook and he is all yours.

Cotto isnt overrated. Beating Shane and Zab and loosing in a war to Margocheato doesnt make him overrated. He's the current # 2 Welter right now.
