This fight never seems to get considered or discussed.
Does EVERYONE assume GGG is a shoo-in?
Can anyone make a case for Felix?

    Len,

You should refrain from voicing an opinion, because you'll get called a Sturm fanboy, nut hugger etc etc.

Why wouldn't Sturm have a decent shot against GGG ? Golovkin is still untested at the top level imo, and i think the likes of Sturm or Murray would give him plenty to think about.
Both are very good defensively, don't waste punches, and have enough pop to keep anybody honest.

Felix is such a hot and cold fighter, he can sleep work through fights that he should win comfortably but makes them tougher then they should be.

Lets say a 100% focused and dedicated Sturm turns up to fight GGG, based on his superb jab and movement i would give Felix a decent chance of pulling off a upset by very tight decision.

Ultimately though GGG is such a beast that i'm not sure any 160lb fighter can live with him.

Thanks for your concern for my welfare Shakes! But I enjoy discussing boxing and the muppets on here don't bother me in the slightest.
As usual your opinion is valued. :good

( Even when you're completely wrong ...like saying Murray won against Sturm):p :p ;)

Good points. Weren't you one of us that picked Sturm to hammer Barker?

Sturm's looked pretty solid lately. I don't think he would but under perfect circumstances, he sure could.

Yeah i think too many people discredited Sturm based on the Murray fight but lets face it Martin got a gift draw in that fight that i thought Sturm won fairly comfortably 116-112. It was only called a Draw as the judges realised they'd made a mistake in the Macklin fight and over compensated in the next fight which just happened to be Murray.

Same thing happened in the two Lewis-Holyfield fights, i've always maintained the judges got the right results but the wrong way around as Lewis won their first fight 116-112 but i could have lived with their second fight being called a draw.

    Gennady beats him.

You either have to be a very athletic boxer with good lateral movement and reactions and can lead and counter quickly or be a very good pressure fighter yourself and have the ability to hurt Gennady and stop him for landing his power shots in mid to short range. Easier said then done..

I don't think Sturm has the variety or power to trouble Gennady for long enough. He's there to be hit himself, His body is exposed to hooks round the sides and the lack of movement from head and body troubles Sturm's chances.

Sturm IMO would be heavily reliant on his jab which would land on Gennady from time to time but that jab alone would not keep the machine off him.

You pretty much summed up the qualities needed to beat GGG nicely.
As you say, Sturm does not have those qualities.

The only ray of light that might (thats "might", mind!) work for Sturm centres around Sturms jab.
Everything GGG does centres around HIS jab.
Sturm is the one man at 160 with a jab to match or maybe exceed GGG. If Felix could out-jab GGG from the first bell, and shell up tight when the heavy artillery comes, he just might get GGG frustrated, annoyed with himself, and if Sturm stayed cool and took advantage GGG just might begin to struggle (mentally as much as physically).

All in all, thats a lot of "ifs", I know and I certainly wouldnt be betting the house on it!

When a fighter does everything seemingly possible to avoid a specific opponent people don't bother mention a potential match up a it clearly isn't going to happen.

Felix's been ducking GGG for the longest time in the most embarrassing fashion since Bowe dumped his belt in the bin.

Well people are discussing it now. Good posters - the likes of Mandanda Terminator Shakes etc arent clueless posters - these lads know what they are talking about IMO.

So whats your two cents worth Sugar?

I think it would take more skills and different style, then Sturm's, to beat Golovkin. His jab should serve him well, but he needs more body and head movement, especially to the side, in order to avoid the heavy punches and be able to frustrate and tire GGG. Shelling up, when Golovkin is coming for you, will not do it.
