It's funny how many people are repeating what the commentating was saying about him being "in control" He was not in control of much unless you believe losing the majority of the early rounds is a good game plan. Looking calm for the majority of time does not equate to control. Amazing how much influence clearly biased commentating persists to have.

Crawford looked good, it looked liked he knew he could hurt Delourme by a the 2nd round. He hit Delourme with a body shot, that not even the HBO crew noticed, that changed Delourme's demeanor, I could see he was visibly hurt. From that point on it seemed like he just picked his spot, great patients by him.

 

I think he did exactly what his corner told him to. No more...no less. The fight was about even going into the 6th or maybe he was down a round. And he seized the moment perfectly.

 

Or alternatively, it's amazing how much influence actual knowledge and experience of how cautious counter-punchers fight in a new weight class has.


You noticed the way Crawford was off his stool 20 seconds early for the sixth round? Because he had finished his studies.

 

I thought he looked great. He stuck to the game plan of boxing and not getting careless against the bigger man who starts out fights expending a lot of energy. Everyone knew Crawford would let Delourme burn out a bit the first 5-6 rounds then come on later. Anytime you have a bigger guy coming in with explosive punches, you have to be careful. But you could tell Crawford is always thinking in there. Like Mayweather, perhaps collecting data and adjusting.

The post is about observers thinking Crawford was somehow in full control (of the fight, not himself) the entire time , nothing more, nothing less. Which clearly he wasn't, and apparently you agree with by admitting he was "cautious" and your "new weight class" statements. A person in control imposes their strategy better than the opponent does theirs to "win rounds" that was Dulorme in the early going.
