ERm. I think this has nothing to do with Boxing. But I'll answer it anyway. Are you crouch-twisting into the bag and dropping your body weight into it like a shoulder barge? While you probably wont get away with using it in Boxing, I still dont think it is entirely useless. Sometimes I swing the bag side to side and twist my waist so that my shoulder collides into the side of the 150 pound bag, stopping it entirely. A few people here insist that substituting an elbow for the fist is good way to develop full waist torque to training up a good hook. I suppose it is essentially the same thing if you substitute your shoulder, but I turn from the inside out so that it is more like blocking. The rawness DOES go away through constant training most of the redness is only skin deep. However, Capillaries tend to burst from impact yet every part of the body right down to the blood vessels can also be toughened.
Aren't you the guy with 90 year old hands, Pugsley? Also, the toughening and hardening of shoulders can be easily achieved by doing present arms drills that you do in the army with a rifle. Bang, bang, bang onto your shoulder certainly made it impenetrable to feeling.
I can't find any purpose at that exrcise. You could use your shoulder though when you opponent tries to hug you (Ruiz style) because you shouldn't waste energy by pushing him with your hands. Other than that you shouldn't use your shoulders, it is a foul in boxing and you shouldn't train that in heavybag.
Damn.. YoungHyp. Are you for real or are you just a very good comedian with all of your threads??? If your real then damn... I'd like to meet you in real life, you seem like a very interesting person
WTF are shoulder hits? :huh Instead of hitting with your shoulders, I'd learn to throw real punches. Unless I am getting this all wrong and you're actually talking about MMA or something along those lines.
Drench your shoulders in alcohol. Then bring them next to an open flame. This should toughen up the skin real well.
:huhThey're not ninety yet... but the bare hand punch bag is causing me problems with closing my hands fully. Dont know if it is the onset of premature arthiritis. Constant banging on the arms and wrists etc isn't wasted -to get that little bit more toughness. Especially for a fighter who invests so much on using their arms.
shoulder hits.......hmmm.......never heard of em.....just kidding....i do em too...but with my shirt off- AND my pants off.....i sometimes put my arms around my back and just do wat i call the three point hits system. hitting the bag with my shoulder, then head to bag, then other shoulder. this hardens all three points to the point of being tough like leather....very effective....cotto also uses this in fights.....so i developed it to simulate what cotto does.......dont worry about these guys- theyre just pickin on someone new.......you should definetely try this routine at your gym with other guys too, shirts off , pants off (seriously) and all- it builds both guys physiques at once without the bag- bump shoulders- then heads then other shoulder.....then throw in a low blow to catch each other off guard every now and then..... good luck with your training man...i ll keep an eye out for you- your going far with your approach..
