These two were coming up pretty solid around 83/84 Ramos eventually had drug problems hurt his career and Czyz eventually outgrew 160. But what if these two had fought in 83 who wins?
Ramos was pretty protected until he finally had to jump into deep water. I remember him getting stopped by journeyman Ted Sanders on the way up and that no one ever got to see even a clip of that fight. Always wondered how bad it must've looked. Czyz was always "under the lights" per se, and I think he was a more durable, tougher, and more committed and disciplined fighter and would've won in '83 or later. Good thread though.
Bobby Czyz was both a very durable and intelligent fighter. Prime for prime he'd have to be heavily favored over Alex Ramos who very erratic and unpredictable. He could convincingly beat a good opponent in one match then lose to a trial horse in his very next outing. In 1983 however it might have been anyone's fight. Czyz still had yet to reach his pinnacle.
Like both guys, cousin went to HS with Alex in Bronx, and he was the more talented fighter, but was erratic. Around '83, probably would take Bobby by the slimmest of margins, if this was a year earlier, would say Alex wins.Had no business losing to Ted Sanders( who amazingly beat Mickey Goodwin).
It's possible Ramos could have won a decision. It is also possible, Bobby would have won via stoppage. Ramos was more skilled but not nearly as durable. Ramos fought some high level competition in 83-84, losing to Murray Sutherland because of low blows, and beating Curtis Parker in a war. Then, he was stopped by James Kinchen. Czyz didn't really fight anyone notable at 160 after losing a convincing decision to Mustafa Hamsho in late '82. Then, he moved up to 168.
