I didn't realize Haye had such a habit of hitting people in the back of their heads and while their down until I watched that video. I hope this fight comes off and doesn't end in a TD or ND.
i love that video it demonstrates how hard and explosive a puncher he is. i don't know how hard he hits at heavyweight though since he hasn't really faced a durable fighter outside of valuev who wasn't even that good to begin with
I don't know, I'd say Ruiz is durable. Only stopped twice in his career and was was getting caught cold against Tua. He wasn't in his prime, no, but he was still really tough. Good win, I think, mainly because it was a stoppage. Haye destroyed him.
I don't really like watching any of the modern heavyweights, but I have to say, Haye punches in quite a satisfying way. Wlad comes across as big but a bit awkward and stiff, like a robot...Haye seems wilder/sloppier, but his punches look like bullets, the sort of sharpness that comes when you achieve a great balance between speed and heavy hands. I haven't seen many heavyweights with that particular quality. I also like his movement around the ring...seems light on his feet for his size.
I agree. People talk about the super heavyweights like their dominance is guaranteed in the future, but when you see guys like Haye, you see things a huge heavyweight can't do. For all the positives size brings, there's also a lot of downsides. The average size in the division has steadily increased over the years but I can't imagine many 6'5"+ heavyweights dominating in the future because they simply won't be agile or fast as guys a lot smaller. People say heavyweights like Haye and Adamek are undersized but I think guys like Valuev are oversized, to the point where their size hurts them. The only heavyweight right now, who has no negatives because of his size is Wlad and even he fights in a 'stiff' style. Size isn't always a positive thing, I don't think. Fast, sharp, explosive heavyweights like Haye are primed to beat a bigger man.
You're right, Ruiz was savvy, and had guts, but he was shot and probably lost some of the punch resistance with age if i'm right, Holyfield has similar wins over Pinklon thomas and james tillis, who weren't prime and lost what fighting ability they had my main point is hes unproven at heavy
