After watching the top ten bone breaks in mma thread I remembered hearing its a good idea to block a leg kick with the knuckle of your knee. Do fighters try to do this when checking kicks?

people often lift their shin to check it but the trick is to step INTO the check. that way you can intercept their leg before its at full extension where its ganna have that full power "snap"

Has any one ever gotten a fracture from blocking those leg kicks? It seems to me that only the kickers got injured.

Yes, yes, yes! You can damage or break your leg by checking a kick. Real thai fighters or kyokushin fighters spend years conditioning their legs. That's why I always find it laughable when MMA guys drill so hard on round kicks because they don't have the leg conditioning to properly utilize those techniques. In my opinion if you're not a conditioned muay thai fighter meaning you know how to do that dance with the fancy head gear on or if you don't know what one hundred man sparring is - then you should never check a leg kick - instead get out of the way or close the gap or use some other technique - unless of course you know that your opponent is a milk toast pretender like yourself in which case block it however you see fit.

you check it but you have to have your legs conditioned. i trained muay thai in thailand for 6 months and was amazed at how much emphasize is placed on leg conditioning i had an idea but its really ridiculous. they start young as well so when they are eighteen your shins are practically baseball bats.

To me it always appeared that Hill's leg was broke before the kick even landed which is odd as ****.

old school thai guys used to start by kicking bamboo trees and rolling those pizza dough rollers on their shins but just kicking a heavy bag routinely your shins will get better conditioned to take and dish out punishment
