Kessler? He doesn't strike me as a defensive wizard.

    Yes.

I haven't thought about it enough to put together a top 10 of defensive fighters, but I don't think Jones is even top 10 anymore (he's too slow to use his defensive style at this point), and Joan Guzman, Josh Clottey and Arthur Abraham seem like glaring omissions. Kessler seems too high to me (he's well-rounded, but by no means a defensive genius), and John seems too low. I don't think I'd put Campbell in my top 25, much less top 10. Mijares probably deserves a shout out as well. At this point, Wlad might belong in the picture if you consider his jab to be more defensive than offensive, which it has been his last few fights.

Campbell doesn't deserve to be on that list either I agree. Anyone that drops his hands inexplicably and gets ko'd by Robbie Peden isn't exactly a shoe-in for the list.

well it's hard to think of them. i would take kessler off, put GUZMAN on.

jones was great defensively vs trinidad.

I disagree. Toney is without doubt the best defensive boxer in the world just now. The guy is a middleweight in poor physical condition and almost 40 years old, and he can slug it out with genuine heavyweights purely because of his incredible defensive skill.

How the hell can you think Mikkel ****ing Kessler is better defensively than him?!?

    My top 3 is:

    1.Toney
    2.Hopkins
    3.Wright

Calderon is number 1 on my list, all his career fighting much bigger opponents than him and still going, but three isn't that bad considering the quality of opposition of Winky and Bernard. Clottey has great D, also Guzman, those guys are a nightmare to KO.

roy jones was very elusive in his prime but he has lost alot of his foot work now and is now goign to putting his hands up and laying on th eropes. which was good defence when he used to do it in his prime but he is very hitable now.

kessler i dont think anyone has ever heard of him being a defencive fighter. very strange ommision.

chris john i have no problem with but i think there are better defencive fighter in boxing. but a good call.

campbell has a high workrate and uses a basic guard and is kinda of aggresive. he is not a defencive genius he just hard to hit cleanly....unless he drops his hands and sticks out his chin.

arthur abe has a great defence i would put him down as a defencive fighter.

joan guzman wins fights due to his reactions and reflexes.

    corey spinks maybe?:think
