Range is definately an issue...on saturday he was throwing hooks that were missing by a mile, and it wasn't as though Barr was using his silky skills to get out of the way of them
Hard to tell about his sense of distance purely because he is way over eager. He needs to settle down and box in his own style. Plus he was fighting a guy that was a bum in truth so he was just walking him down and throwing all kinds of punches. I think eventually he'll come across a tougher opponent and he'll settle down into using some of his amateur skills. You would never know this was the same guy that used distance and counterpunching to win a gold medal. He's overadapted in some cases, I'd like to see a few of those skills but they'll need the right opponent to bring it out.

You noticed that as well? It looked like a very poor impression of Pernell Whitaker or Emmanual Augustus doing that "high stepping" showboating move. Hard to tell about his sense of distance or footwork, it was poor but it didn't really matter where he was given the opponent.
The out of the ring nonsense actually carries into the ring. Too much energy and focus placed on trying to look good. Poor performance the other day really, he got caught, he slapped, threw wild rights... he needs to get down to basics and stop acting a tit. I think he needs to be moved quite quickly too, he'll get stuck with bad habits if he doesn't. He needs a wake up call.
I agree with a fe of the points here. I think he does slap a bit which annoys me, I also think he tends to walk and just stand in front of his opponents flat footed and then try out his mayweatheresque shoulder rolls. Which is fine but mayweather has great footwork. I think he will still do well though, they don't give gold medals away!
I'd just put him in with someone that can crack. The last opponent, Nathan King I think it was, was more capable than Barr, taking him the distance - though DeGale would probably have got rid of him if it was over 6 rounds. Showboating and this Michael Flatley impression that he tries to do is all good against these guys - albeit a bit twattish - but he can get away with it. Is there someone knocking around at domestic level like a lesser version of Thaxton... tough, awkward and can bang with either hand - it would certainly grab his attention. Even someone like the dude that Groves fought in Germany would be good.
I didn't like the silly walk towards opponent and the way he holds guard up like a 10 year olds. He's better then that...way over eager maybe because he does wanna put a show on for fans...i just wish he'd box and do what's best for him. He should only think about what's right for him. I keep banging on about it but for James to flourish he will need to hire a trainer who has the knowledge and ability to coach his style of boxing. Jimmy Mac is good but even Danny Williams mentioned he did lack technical knowledge up and till recent times.
