Disagree with you here. Comparing competition between Groves and Degale... Groves has been the one who will have learned more and has been the one who's looked more impressive (despite losing). He dominated Johnson (past it - yes), but it was only 12 months after Froch fought him. He's then been in 2 fights with an established world class fighter in Froch, giving him a good fight both times before unfortunately for him coming up short - but he has shown he belongs at world class level. Degale on the other hand, hasn't been in with anyone remotely near Froch's class. I hadn't seen anything of Gonzalez, so stuck him on YouTube and watched his fights with Oosthuizen and Duran - wasn't impressed with him at all. Groves may have lost these two fights with Froch, but he's shown a lot of ability, class, power etc in those fights for us to see the improvements he's made over the past few years and that he will go on to become a world champion. Degale looked good last night, not taking anything away from him, but he was expected and rightly should have done that to Gonzalez last night.
I did say Froch aside. ok, between the Degale Groves fight and Groves fighting Froch the first time, imo Degale fought better comp. Groves is world class, Degale is too but both of them have been fast tracked and Groves jumped in at the deep end and it backfired, I'm saying the same would happen to Degale but imo it wouldn't be quite as much of a step up for him since he's been mixing in the European class, whereas Groves fought Smith (good win but British level), Johnson who clearly couldn't pull the trigger and a few road sweepers nobody has ever heard of.
A lot of boxing is mental. Deglaze obviously went through a big slump in form, but overall he has to be one of the most improved fighters around. Looks real world class right now but what happens if he is fragile mentally and has another loss of form in future?
Don't like him as a person but he put in a very good performance last night. Wouldn't mind seeing him up against Froch.
If he stays active he can become a world champion, but i would like to see him fight Bika for the WBC and then have a mega fight with Froch maybe later where Froch hopefully wins and retires with all 3 belts.
I love seeing Degale fight aggressive - He is a real mean b*stard when he wants/needs to be. He also rises to the occasion the bigger it is, which is always good. Put him on a massive show in a do-or-die fight and he'll thrive. Fair play to him, he looked lethal last night, and for a while it looked his career was going nowhere.
He could have likely had the fight with Bika if he has stayed with Mick. Fair enough he's clearly being paid more now but he will have to wait for his shot at Froch or the IBF title. DeGale strikes me as the type of guy who could start an argument with himself and it wouldn't shock me if he leaves Hearn if the Froch fight (or an IBF title fight) doesn't happen soon. He will never be Hearn's No.1 Super Middleweight as when Froch retires he will throw his weight behind Callum Smith. I hope I'm wrong as I'd like to see him against Eubank Jr/Groves/Smith with a world title on the line.
Degale would teach carl a lesson on the ropes. He is a nasty fighter up close and fights best when under pressure. Degale has a better chin than groves too. Degale will make froch look terrible win or lose.
You obviously don't understand boxing since if you did, you'd realise going on the ropes is the LAST thing you want to do against Carl Froch. He's one of, if not THE most dangerous boxer in the world when his opponent backs onto the ropes. As soon as Degale goes on the ropes, goodnight James!
