Vernon is and always has been a solid, slashing technician, but Buddy Mcgirt deserves credit for strategy against Mora. Vernon was operating exactly right against a herky-jerky, high energy boxer like Sergio. * control him with the jab -especially with jabs to the chest to keep him off balance * sneak hooks as Mora came in * slashing right hooks over the low left * stay tight and punch with him. He's herky jerky, you'll catch him more than he'll catch you. The problem with guys like Mora and his fellow defensive-minded guys without thunder is that they are concentrating on avoiding shots even as they punch. That means that they never get set. Which means that they don't allowe themselves to hit hard because they are already in evasive motion as they launch a shot. As soon as Vernon realized that Mora doesn't commit, he stopped worrying and started relaxing... and that's what you don't want Vernon to do. One time late, Mora grit his teeth and committed to a right hand and Vernon was stunned, but it was already to late.

Loved that fight, was honestly looking forward to it as much as I was looking forward to Marquez/Casamayor. Forrest just proved that he didn't lie when he said he wasn't 100% mentally and physically in the first fight, he was active all night and every time Mora looked to shine he would shut him up with punches of his own. He hurt Mora countless times during that fight and floored him, one-sided fight as it SHOULD have been the first time.
Don't think so, it's just that the Marquez win was huge considering it ended by TKO, then him calling out Pac and Guzman pulling out all getting far more attention.
I think that's kind of the point. Everyone knew it was a fluke of epic proportions the first time around and by then, most people were so disgusted with the way Forrest performed on the first fight that this one just kind of felt all "who cares?" ish. Forrest should rue the roost at 154 unless Angulo proves to be as good as most people think he is.
Nopes no need for a third fight . . . Forres should look at othet fights with higher stature value. A Vernon or Santos unification fight would be more logical. Yes . . . not much threads . . . because people now know that Forrest didn't came into the first fight prepared. The result of the second fight is pretty much expected and accepted.
Buddy McGirt is the most overrated trainer in history. Forrest has ALWAYS been a great technician his entire career. Vern coulda had Dave Chapelle in the corner and it wouldnt have mattered. As long as he was motivated, thats all it took for him to beat The Latin Fake.

Technique isn't strategy. Vernon demonstrated both technique and strategy. He listened to Buddy's instructions in the corner. Buddy knows boxing.
I think that Forrest showed who the better fighter is, so there is no need for a rubber match. The problem with Forrest is , where does he go from now. I do not see him getting any big fights in the near future.
