I don’t see anything whatsoever suspicious about it. Personally I think it’s unfair to fighters to speculate on a fix with no allegation, so reason to believe it, no suggestion and particularly no evidence. I mean if a guy goes down and wasn’t hit, if there’s rumors on the inside, if the odds on a big fight shift after some big money comes in … at least some basis … sure, go ahead. But just ‘seems a little convenient that a guy’ … what, landed a punch that won a fight? C’mon man. I love what you bring to this forum but I hope you’ll give some thought to deleting this one.
Just rewatched this fight the other day. I find nothing suspicious about it though. Liakhovich had a lot taken out of him in the Brewster fight and was never the same after, that and I think that he was more cautious than usual because Briggs is one big mofo who was known for packing serious power…..who wouldn’t fight cautiously when matched with him? Lol.
I find it funny that briggs won with 1 second left on the clock. also time stoped at 20 seconds and after first kn the bell should have sounded
Just rewatched it stoped at 26 seconds and that last kd briggs didnt land a punch but Lyakovich was gone and just fell trough the ropes, technically could have been ruled a slip. But it was the right result
The short answer is that it wouldn't. Fixes are a high risk business, and you go for the simplest narrative possible. The longer the fight, and the more complex the narrative, the more chance there is of something going wrong. KO1 is by far the lowest risk option if you want to take a dive. To throw a fight in the last few seconds of the last round, you would need to be damn sure that the reff was on side. If the reff had given a count, then Liakhovich would have been saved by the bell, so we must assume that the reff would have been in on it. Strange things are inevitable in boxing, given its long history. Something like this was bound to happen eventually.
Didn't seem all that suspicious to me. Sometimes a boxer knows he's in trouble on the scorecard and decides to go for the KO. See Leonard vs Hearns 1 and Chavez vs Taylor for very dramatic examples of late round rallies. Not enough guys do that nowadays and half ass their way through the match wanting to simply survive.
