If I can pick any fighter and the film of them magically appears then...Joe Gans, Jack Johnson, Henry Armstrong, Willie Pep, Joe Louis. Joe Gans was a revolutionary technician. Johnson maybe the greatest defensive boxer in history during his time. Armstrong a legendary infighter. Pep had masterful footwork and head movement. Joe Louis had ergonomic and mechanical punching perfection.
Minimal as possible? Roberto Duran Miguel Canto These two are arguably the best ring generals ever seen on film. Both have large amounts of film, including title matches and past prime footage (important for distinguishing technique from physical ability), had huge amounts of experience and have shown all types of looks when it comes to dealing with all varieties of styles, including unorthodox stylists. Both masterfully skilled in offense and varieties of defence which translate across all eras H2H, the former rated by many as the best infighter ever and the latter being known for some of the best movement and text book generalship in the business. Both rated as top guys in their division(s). Both were able to overcome massive physical disadvantages and age with pure technique, experience and intuition. Above all, both are extremely entertaining to watch so you won't get bored of studying them.
Kind of a weird question, did you think of this while you were on the can or something? I would lean towards fighters who had exceptionally long careers and had to adapt or change their styles over time to stay relevant. Guys that proved their stamina going the distance more times than not, guys who were well known for defense but who also had top rate timing and accuracy. For me I would use guys like James Toney, Pernell Whitaker, may be even Marvin Hagler... If I wanted to throw a more offensive guy in there I'd probably use Manny Pac

Seeing as the thread title says sum up the ART of boxing, I'm not too sure if I can name multiple fighters, but if limited to one fighter, then Pep comes immediately to mind. He is a good example of classical AND unconventional technique. The only thing he lacked was power, otherwise he had just about everything. Imagine if he could hit with extreme power from all those unorthodox (and orthodox) positions, all the while being a super crafty nasty trip-you-up lightning-fast ghost in the ring? Scary thought.
