99.99% of refs would immediately stop a fight seeing a completely mangled and disfigured eye hanging out the socket. You're basically suggesting a scenario where Greb is guaranteed to win via TKO or by doctor stoppage. If you have to go that far, why not suggest Ali got beat up by thugs before he entered the ring or that he was poisoned?
I make no bet on this fight. Greb is a complete unknown. I still make Ali a big favorite. But anything can happen and I would not bet my life on that.
No, of course I am speaking lightheartedly re the socket hang etc. - but we’re talking what Greb can possibly do - and did get away with…yes, taking it that far to impair an opponent’s vision- not thugs before a fight or Ali being poisoned which is taking it far beyond Greb himself.
I think Ali entered into a fix in his 2nd fight with Liston, knowing he would win, with Liston and Walcott's help. He could just as easily enter a fix knowing he would lose. I wouldn't bet anything on him.
More than a half-century later, no one has yet proven that the fight was fixed. Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.
