A good one could be Pryor-Arguello 1, with chapters alternating the life stories of the two fighters leading up to the fight, chapters on the fight itself, then the events of their lives after their association.

    Jimmy Thunder - Crawford Grimsley

I am outlining a 6 volume set on this one, right up there with Pollack and Ochs.

You could do a good 300-500 pages on the chaos leading up to the Nestor Garza v Bones Adams fight.
It would be the Spinal Tap of the boxing game.

I think you could write 1,000 pages on the Fight of the Century before even discussing what happened during the fight.

I suspect Jersey Joe Walcotts upset of Charles would be an interesting read but I don’t know about 1000 pages. Profiling both men would be interesting, both have little in the way of coverage in the book world from what I remember other then being attached to Marciano tragically. I really don’t know history well.

As a writer I'm of the opinion that there are precisely ZERO thousand page books worth reading.

Is there any reason you chose this one and not Gans vs Nelson 1?

There's so much controversy around it it's insane, and it impacted the division for years, which lead to the Gans Nelson fight.

How many title fights are such a mess that they split a title lineage?

I agree with you .. such a fight would have told us the truth about both fighters .. was Johnson a class above or was Jeffries shot or both .. that said , it didn't and that is all on Jeffries .. I can only imagine w common sense he would have given Johnson a better fight than Marvin Hart did and bad decision or not, Hart was competitive ..

This was a pretty good doc about the build up to the first fight

This thread is making me feel better that some folks are willing to read a book over 1000 pages. My upcomIng Dempsey book is likely to be that big.
