Currently, as heavyweights, I don't rank either of them as an ATG. If Fury beats Usyk, he gets the same thing that Usyk gets if he wins. The title of best of the current generation. With a grand total of three title defenses between them, they need to do more for a longer period of time to be considered all time greats as heavyweights.

Top 15 or almost in the top ten. With there body of work, I cannot think of putting them over Louis, Ali, Marciano, Holmes, Johnson, Wlad, Dempsey, ete. Liston did make 1 title defense and seems to make most top ten list, So if we are going that route, we can put them in.

 

Yet, I would pick either over every heavyweight before Liston.

 

Not that high. It is a man who advertises himself at 6'9" beating a natural cruiser.

Sorry, but Usyk just gets more credit for the other way around.

 

IF he beats Usyk, which i think he does purely cos of his height, then hes knocking on top 15 maybe higher. Its ok being romantic and that but it is what it is. He is very effective at what he does whether one likes it or not

 

Usyk stands to gain far more credit if he wins. Fury not so much if at all. From the perspective of losing, it’s the reverse. A loss for Fury would be quite damaging whereas Usyk might be given somewhat of a pass as the smaller man and the underdog in the first place.

 

I'd lift Fury up from the top 20 to top 15...put him up past Bowe.

 

I don't think I'd have Fury too high h2h, ever. There are too many heavy punchers who are miles better overall boxers and finishers than Wilder. Tyson, Liston, Foreman, Louis, Lewis, prime Wlad. I don't see him getting by peak Frazier....shoot, Lyle and Norton wouid give him trouble. I don't see him getting past Holmes or Ali either, both just plain better, more resourceful fighters imo.

 

Higher then Usyk. Lower then Joe Louis.

In seriousness, it won’t matter a great deal.

If Usyk beats Fury though…

 

Joe Louis laughs at this claim. Liston is an overrated leg breaking quitter…

 

I'm 47 years old and in my lifetime I have seen just about every heavyweight champion to reign in that period spoken badly about. Larry Holmes was the dominant champion when I was a kid and folks said he was a poor man's Ali. Now most have him top ten or even top five all time. Evander was seen as boring or too small when he beat Buster. Only after his win over Tyson did people truly start saying ATG. Same with Lennox Lewis. He was a classy world champion that got caught twice by big punchers which at the time made people question his greatness. Nowadays most think his an ATG head to head.

So here we are with Fury and Uysk. I have had more than a few disagreements with folks about Uysk's greatness. I have been following this fighter since his amateur days because he is just that special. I know a lot of folks just think the Joshua fights are all he has accomplished but his amateur record and what he did at CW is simply amazing. He is truly a great fighter as is Fury. Regarding Fury, we have never seen a big man as athletically gifted and skilled as him. We are truly in a great era whether folks see it or not. I'm really not into ranking fighter because there are just to many variables but this is a really good time to be a fan of heavyweight boxing.

I would encourage anyone that truly loves boxing to watch some Uysk fights and really watch the subtleties of what he does. He is special.

 

Fury would be remembered as a champion who breaks the reigns of other champions and "takes off the zeroes".
He would also be remembered as the first undisputed heavyweight champion in two and a half decades.
His resume would no longer be questioned, but haters will always find a loophole.
Since he is undefeated I see no reason why he wouldn't be tenth on the TOP HW ATG list then.
The boxer who beats Usyk first will certainly be well remembered in boxing history.

 

Fury has not messed up lineage
only messed up his career by taking years out
