What were the circumstances surrounding an older Dempsey fighting that guy Cowboy Newtrel (i think thats his name)? Was it a charity thing or did the guy challenge Jack? What was the story behind it? Its been a long time from ive seen it and im very patchy on it
Cowboy Luttrell was his name, I think Dempsey was reffing a wrestling match that Luttrell was in and he didn't like a call Jack made and threw at punch at him, the bout was made off the back of that apparently
From what I understand it started as a "worked" or fake wrestling story line. Dempsey was refering a match. Latrell pushed him...dempsey shoved him back, latrell challenged him to a boxing match (typical pro wrestling bull **** you see today) only difference was they actually fought...you can tell from the youtube video (just search dempsey cowboy in youtube) that dempsey was throwing real shots....back in those days pro wrestling sometimes had fake acted story lines with real matches. This was one such case.
Was Lutrell aware that Dempsey was gonna tee-off on him or did he think it was gonna be like a Floyd-Big show kinda thing. I cant help thinking he was in for a shock when Dempsey started throwing leather. Or did he go into the ring expecting Dempsey to fight therefore fancying his own chances (or a deathwish)?
