You tell us, you are saying Quarry would be the best man he faced,so you must have seen all Jack's opponents. How did Fred Fulton look,Miske,Brennan,Morris,Smith?

Did Dempsey have beat as hard a puncher as Shavers, as big a physical specimen as Lyle, as fast a heavyweigh as Patterson?

    Just a few questions.

The point of my thread exactly, Seamus.

I figured the knee-jerk reaction and general consensus would be a Dempsey stoppage, but there are interesting factors here that make me tell myself to not be so fast.

As for Dempsey, I'll use a favorite saying, and that is that just because he didn't do it doesn't mean he couldn't have done it.

Well, he certainly beat bigger fighters than Lyle.

Firpo was a big puncher, and as big as Lyle,Gibbons and Carpentier were both fast.

It is regularly argued that both Patterson was the fastest heavy ever and Shavers was the hardest punching heavy ever.

My point being... Don't glibly chalk up a blowout KO where the relative results and competition don't suggest one. And yes, I do pick Dempsey to win.

The closest opponent in style Quarry has to Dempsey is Frazier.
    Frazier absolutely battered him.
    Dempsey would murder him.

Joe always had kind words for "Quarry". 2 guys meeting in center ring in their primes.

Was Patterson the fastest ever in1967 when he fought Quarry and he was nearly 33.Shavers was a great puncher but he was nowhere in Dempsey's class as a finisher.
I haven't glibly said anything if you took the trouble to read my posts ,you would see I haven't even made a pick! Now if you want the result of this fight watch Jerry v Frazier.
