Before the Ruiz fight there was a choice between Ruiz and Tarver Roy went for Ruiz as many have said high reward low risk i dont dispute Roy woulda beaten Tarver in his prime but did Roy always know Tarver had stylistic advantages that would have made it a difficult fight and would he have fought Tarver after Ruiz if Tarver didnt call him out?

How can you duck somebody you've fought 3 times?

I see what your trying to say bro..
But Ruiz was a bigger fish in a shallow pond.

Jones Jr. prob wanted to make history, not repeat it.
    (Since they already fought 3x)

Roy was planning to fight Tarver before Ruiz but because Tarver lost to Harding the fight went out the window and Roy fought Harding instead. So to answer yor question, Roy was not ducking Tarver he was fighting the person who was considered a better fighter at the time.

He fought him immediately after Ruiz anyway and preceeded to fight him twice more so what exactly is your point?

But the thread starter is talking about before Ruiz, not after.

I meant when he had the choice between Ruiz and Tarver in 2002 not the present time were he has fought him 3 times

Tarver had only just avenged his defeat to Harding and before that had only beat Reggie Johnson on a split, he had done nothing to prove he earned the right to fight RJJ. Roy was content on winning a heavyweight title and so stepped up to beat Ruiz before coming back down straight away to fight Tarver, and then preceeded to fight him twice more. Accusing Roy of ducking Tarver is stupid in everyway.
