This content is protected Richie Kates is probably the most underrated of the top Light Heavyweights of the golden era in the mid 1970's He fought and narrowly lost twice to Victor Galindez in attempts to annex the WBA title. In the third round of their first fight he lands a clean right hand that opens a cut on Victor's eye. Galindez stops fighting and appears to claim a headbutt occurred. The referee allows Galindez to take a break even though the cut was clearly caused by a punch. Kates says he didn't pounce because he thought Galindez was quitting. Anyway, WBA politics were at play and Galindez was well connected. It's an interesting video and even though Richie never won a world title, in the long run, his is a positive story because it's clear he retained his factulties, has a nice family, and is not destitute. Mike Rossman got screwed over in the original Fight #2, when VG wouldn't come out of his dressing room (as challenger), because he didn't like the referee choice.
