I didn't see his fight last night, but it seems to me that he's gotten a bit too content with fighting nobodies. He's getting older, but I feel (as many of you do) that he could hold a chunk of the title. What gives?
Didn't see his last fight, but Povetkin fought the same guy in his second professional fight atsch Tua has enough experience, one or a few tuneups are enough, time to step up for a change. He isn't getting any younger and his style is not one that fits boxers high in their 30's.
Tua should probably fight one good fight against a top guy to get the rounds in, because the better boxers are going to drag him into the later rounds. Staying busy is keeping him in the gym and his weight down, but he needs to fight a guy thats going to push him a little more so hes ready for a title shot. Going from 2 round garbage men to Wladmir Klitschko is going to be a big wake up call for him, so his promoter better get him one more good fight before his supposed title challenge in december januaury. An aggressive Tua under 235 is going to be a tough challenge for any of the champions right now.
All of Tua's confidence disappeared during the fight with Lennox Lewis. You could actually see it in his face as the fight progressed. He admitted in later interviews that he even went home and cried to his father about it ( shattered confidence) and that it took him many months to even start thinking about fighting anyone with any kind of power again. I think after all that he decided to just fight nobodies and live off of his name until he could cash out against a big name fighter again.
To be fair to the guy, he has been stepping up both his activity and his attempts at getting back into good shape recently. I'd say squeeze in another quick fight, then look to take on a top ten guy in December or January. Unless he ends up getting gifted that shot against Wladimir, of course!
Tua is finished. he never won a belt and never will he is too one dimensional. People on here are too obsessed with his power.
at the end of the day its like this tua is in his 30s now, he was out of shape a few months back and was not fighting fit,hes fighting regular nobodies to get that fitness back along with his weight slowly dropping he was lightest hes been for a while in his last fight let him progress and get back to his 100percent
I think he needs to step up and fight a top 20 guy then a top 10 guy then get a title shot. That is, if he is able to beat the top 20 guy and the top 10 guy. Enough tune ups. Time to step up.
It depends on which belt he's after, but these are the ten guys I would be aiming at if I was Tua. They're all ranked in the Top Ten of at least 1 of the boxing orgs, and seem suitable to me for Tua to beat. Just a busy fight an a payday. Guess they didn't want to take much of a chance with a possible klitschko match coming up.
Tua is going to be the next ex-champion or former contender to get a shot at belt. He has been on an extended run of the tomato can express, this express has a proven track record of landing the fighter (or rider) in a championshp fight. First Rahman rode the express after his loss to Ruiz, next Oleg MAskev rode the express for 10 wins or so, then stepped up competition slightly and beat Sam and got his shot against the aforemention tomato can expresser Rahman. Than Briggs comes out of oblivion (after riding the express) and lands his shot at Liakhovich. Next it's Tua or possibly McCall.
Tua deserves another chance at the title, I mean how many chances has Golota had already. Tua still has one of the best chins in boxing and one punch knockout power, its not like were back in the 70s were the top 10 fighters were all good. In todays heavywight division any decent fighter has a chance of winning belt, look how the wbo belts been floating around over the past year and a half. **** I have Tua beating Maskaev, and a 50/50 chance of him beating Chagaev just because I see Chagaev trying to go hook for hook with Tua which would be a big mistake on his part.
Don't know if Tua is lacking confidence but he does seem content to taking as easy a path as possible to getting a title shot or big payday. Last nights gimme isn't that big a deal because he fought just a few weeks ago. I just don't see Tua taking on anyone too serious until he lands his big fight. I think Tua could still be somewhat of a force in today's division. He's staying active and his weight seems to be going in the right direction. With his experience, chin, and power already in place, he could be trouble for a lot of guys. A supposed bout with Wlad might be good for him financially but it would be bad for him profesionally. I think Wlad would be the first guy to stop Tua at this point in his career. Still nice to see Tua active in todays division, the heavyweights need all the star power they can get. It would be nice though, to see Tua mix it up with someone worth fighting.
Tua has confidence. He is losing weight and staying active. He still has a chin and the power to KO any of the 4 champions if he lands. I don't see him beating Wlad though.
