Mijares was feeling Vic's punches. He must have been tryin to find out if he can handle it and was surprised he cant! I've seen him go toe to toe with previous opponents, but because of his skills, he was able to dodge most punches because he's confident to engage with them. Vic was an antidote. Donaire on the otherhand used his head and his skills. He knew Vic packs a punch but knew he could time it. He was also confident to engage because he knew he was much faster than Vic. Mijares-Donaire was being criticized as an uncompetitive fight before by some "cult"... I believe it'll be great!
Mijares must be one dumb mofo if hes trying to find out if Vic can punch because Vics known as a KO artist. Mijares was able to dodge and take most punches because those were 2nd tier guys...This is what happens when they step up in comp..all of a sudden, they look more like Clark Kent than Superman
yeah, many slick boxers who are getting plenty of raves for their skills look good only against 2nd tier competition
I was talking about Donaire-Arce there. After seeing Arce becoming much closer to being shot this year, I favor Donaire over him at this point. Prime Arce still stops Donaire IMO and I think a Darchinyan rematch is 50/50. But I'll take your Mijares-Donaire bet if it ever happens, for however many months you choose. I'm still very confident in Mijares beating Donaire badly.

Mijares may never be the fighter he used to be after his loss to Vic. If I were him I wouln't be jumping in the ring with Donaire yet.Certain KO again.
I think Donaire has a couple of advantages over Mijares that would make the difference: He is a more intelligent fighter and fights with much more self-control; he doesn't trade when he shouldn't, he knows when to attack aggressively, and when to box, counterpunching. He selects the right tactic at the right time and applies it very well and he switches between tactics sleekly; Mijares doesn't. He has better defence; his head movement is better, his reactions are better and he avoids many more punches than Mijares. As a result, he would get hurt less. He uses his jab more effectively than Mijares. They both have a very good jab, but Donaire uses his to defend, to keep distance and to put his opponent off, not just to set up an attack. He switches stance, keeping Mijares guessing and making himself even more unpredictable. He is a better boxer overall. Mijares has his very good moments, but over the course of a fight, Donaire is the better boxer. His timing, precision and choice of shots and combinations are better. He is the better ring general. He has more power. He would hurt Mijares and keep him honest. They both have a very good chin and they both have good footwork, but Donaire is the better ring general. Mijares doesn't have the power to hurt Donaire and he doesn't have the tactical proficiency or discipline to outpoint him. He is not faster either. I would pick Donaire to outpoint the best version of Mijares and win a close but clear decision. Donaire is getting better and better every day, whereas Mijares isn't. In a year or so, Donaire would win a fairly wide decision over Mijares, I would venture to predict. A very good fight I would like to see, once Mijares gets back on track.
I hope the Mijares lost doesnt pave any door to overate Donaire. Its clear, most ESB members learned a lot of lesson from Mijares. Thats why I never, even in my dreams, got tempted to start a thread of "Lightspeeding Nonito Donaire Express Train" :blurp :verysad :verysad
Yeah, I hope nobody makes a "Nonito Donaire Express Train" Thread. One thing I learned here is that threads like that almost always get derailed badly.
I don't think so since Donaire did beat Vic quite soundly and everyone wants to see a rematch with Vic to see if Nonitos win was a fluke or not.I personally don't beleive it was .A rematch may however produce different results.My gut feeling is that a rematch won't happen. Cheers
I am not trying to underrate Mijares or overrate Donaire. What I wrote mirrors my current imperfect view. I am as always open to persuasion that my reading of the two fighters and of the way they would match up is off the mark and I would encourage any kind soul with the patience to put me right or to give a different perspective to do so.
