I can't pin this down, but I have a memory of watching a fight back in the late 1970s or perhaps very early 1970s that had a double knockdown -- both guys throwing and landing at the same time, but going down.

I keep thinking it was an Alexis Arguello fight, before he moved up to 135, but I could be wrong.

Anyone have any idea what fight this might have been?

Paul Samuels fought hard hitting Cello Renda in 2 eight rounders 5 years or so ago in a couple of domestic middleweight tear ups. The 1st fight was a topsy turvy affair, despite only lasting 3 rounds. Samuels was dropped in the first, in the second both fighters landed simultaneous left hooks, sending one another to the canvas at the same time! It was in fact Samuels, despite being a fairly unfavoured underdog, who went on to stop Renda in the 3rd round. Renda approached the rematch with a different game plan and clearly wary of Samuels' ability to consistently hurt him, chose to box rather than slug, but it proved to no avail. Both fighters tasted the canvas again, but Renda clearly taken away from his natural game, failed to suppress Samuels walking him down and lost a fairly comfortable decision. Both are good fights to watch, even if the men are relative nobody's in the grand scheme of boxing.

Hearns also had a fight with a double knockdown.

doug.ie, that's the first one I think about when a "double knockdown" is mentioned.

You're not thinking of the LeeRoy Murphy-Chisanda Mutti fight are you? It was from the '80s though.

I don't think so. It was on a weekend afternoon back when ABC, CBS and NBC had fights televised on a weekly basis in the late 1970s or early 1980s (had to be in that time frame because of where we lived, I remember where I was watching it).
