I love Duke's commentary. You can't buy stuff like that...

"He's gone, Jim! His legs have gone!"
"I scored that round even, Jim."
    "He's punched himself out!"
"I can't see any way back in the fight for him now, Jim." (usually followed soon by "OHHH what a punch!")

Spoke to Duke in a bar at Caesars palace on Friday and what a great bloke! So friendly he is a big Cotto fan and rates him as being nearly unstoppable at 147lbs that includes a fight with Floyd aswell.

Did you ask him about dave McAuley? I thought McAuley was the bollox when I was growing up - knock him down, but he'll get up and getcha. A bit of a Rocky character.

McAuley had some fcuking wars!!!!!:happy :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy

Assuming that they're British and they can get them?

you need people who know tactics. I'd like LL. Hatton - whatever anyone thinks of him - genuinely understands and knows his stuff. I quite like Johnny Nelson n all.

but NOT Steve Bunce. I really don't think he knows all that much. Claude Abrams much better.

Saw Duke beat Charlie Magri. He was tall for a flyweight, nice boxer, with a useful dig

The way he says certain cliches is great-

"His legs have turned to jehlly!"

    "He's punched 'iself out!"

The good thing is I actually like Duke for his occasionally silly commentary. I respected his skills as a boxer, and I get a smile out of his sometimes oddball comments and grab-bag of cliches.

It's a bit like Foreman, really. I used to love it when George would go off on an utterly weird tangent in the middle of the fight while Lampley and Merchant tried to yank him back into reality.

Absolutely. He's certainly more fun that Jim Watt.

"Riddick Bowe has the be the bravest fighter I've ever seen... Next to Muhammad Ali."

Yep, Foreman was both bizarre and brilliant. He was almost like a wrestling commentator- his character was so great and unusual it almost had to be scripted. If anyone remembers Rowdy Roddy Piper's commentary for the WWF, that's whom Foreman reminds me of.
