Just being reading a book [Four Kings] in which it is claimed that at the end of the bout Leonards brother ran over to Duran and Duran KO'd him with one punch! Can anyone enlighten further on this, checked Youtube coulsn't see anything like this happening..Urban Myth?? Cheers
I have never heard this before. I believe it was at the conclusion of the Galindez Rossman rematch where Mike's brother tried something with Victor and got himself punched out. It was another glorious moment to a glorious night
I watched the fight this morning did not see any thing like that, and they (Al & Rosen) did not mention any thing either.
From the tape IO have I can't see this. Right after the final bell Duran and his team go crazy,Roberto shows his cojones to Wilfred Benitez at ringside while Leonard and his team calmly and dissapointingly await the decision. My tape ends immediately after Ferdie Pacheco does the interview with Duran but who's not to say it didn't happen after.
Belive it is one of these myths myself. Right up there with the Dempsey gloves or Walcott out boxing Marciano round after round with a 12-0 lead before Rocky kos Walcott.
I have never seen it myself but Leonard himself said that Duran and his brother had a confrontation after the first fight. I can't rememeber for sure but I think he said Duran punched his brother..He gave that as a reason that Leonard's brother got in Duran face after the 2nd fight..
I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about this at the time. I do remember a clip of Duran and his boys celebrating after the win, and they were mugging for the camera and taunting SRL something fierce. Duran was sprawled on a stool or a chair, looking a bit lit, grabbing his balls and sneering at Ray in both English and Spanish. I had a feeling that once Ray saw that he was going to give Roberto a serious beatdown in the rematch. That was one factor that made "no mas" so sweet.
I believe Leonard talked about it in the 1982 playboy interview. Not positive, but I think that might be the interview.
Duran coldcocked somebody's wife one time I believe....she had gotten up in the ring and was giving Duran some sh*t.
Story has it that after Duran knocked out Pedro Mendoza in the first round at Managua, Nicaragua in 1975, Mendozas wife, or girlfriend, climbed into the ring and berated Duran. So he decked her.
At the end of the 4th round, Galindez and Rossman kept punching and as Victor walked to the corner, Mike's pissant bro jumped in and ran up to Galindez. Galindez chargeed him like a rhino but was held back. Good thing for Andy that he was. When Rossman punked out and quit, Galindez ran to his corner and yelled at him/ Long live Viscious Victor!!!!!!:smoke
