Duran vs Monzon

Duran was the same size as Napoles, plus he beat a big MW in Iran Barkley.
Duran was very competitive against Hagler, though he lost.

Duran did beat up JrMW Davey Moore real bad to take that title.

Monzon wouldn't start fast like Hearns did and try to take Duran out early.

Duran would be slick and could keep the fight close after 10 rounds, and might make the fight a rough and tumble inside game.

Would Duran have enough savy to eke out a 15 round decision?

 

Duran has enough savvy to survive to a boring and one-sided decision.

But winning is out of the question. Maybe if Duran had conclusively beaten Hagler we'd have something to go by, but as it happened, Hagler beat Duran fairly easily (he did show Duran far too much respect though).

Don't let the judges fool you with that fight.

Monzon is 5 classes above anyone Duran beat at middleweight.

 

Monzon deals out a beating to Duran and stops him before 10...and easily after maybe 3 competitive rounds. It becomes a onesided beating after that...a prime versin of what Joppy did to Duran in later years. No comparison bertween Monjzon and anyone Duran met at middleweight...even Hagler. Monzon would not be as confused as Hagler was in strategy abd he sure as hell wouldn't be as overly respectful as Marv was.

 

1983 Duran? I think Monzon stops him late, but this is not an early knockout. I don't think anyone else could stop him early except Hearns.

 

Duran cannot hurt Monzon any more that any of the other bangers that Monzon face could. Monzon could aboslutely stop Duran or render him without an avenue for sustained attack. For one Duran cannot corner and shoulder Carlos around. Too, Duran would not be fast enough to slip Carlos' long jab to counter it.

If Carlos decides to get physical and push Duran around and rough him up, I think he could.

The best Carlos against a 32 year 154 Duran or 38 160 is going to end the same way. With an unfortunate beating of Duran.

 

Monzon too tall and knows how to use his height advantage. Beating Barkley is not solid criteria for beating Monzon.

 

Carlos is one tough Hombre, and Roberto will find that out real quick.Carlos casually punishes Roberto en route to a eighth round stoppage.

Monzon too strong for Duran at this weight. Roberto makes it to the end,but loses by five points or more.

 

Mnzon beats Duran like a rag doll between rounds 8 and 10. He stops Duran for sure.

 

Carlos ud, a prime Duran has enough to go the distance
