The Duran of the first SRL fight beats Whitaker IMO.

 That was a joke, right?
Whitaker takes it. One of the most underrated fighters ever.
Duran would have a hard time connecting on him, Sweet Pea would make him look foolish at times, Durans pride couldnt take it and we would have "No Mas" all over again.

Sweat Pea would easily and I mean EASILY out box Duran. I can't believe Duran is winning the poll.

I don't agree because Whitaker wouldn't fight the same way SRL did. Whitaker isn't going to trade with Duran.

Honestly, he's rated about as high as anybody could possibly hope to be at this stage of his retirement. It takes a couple of decades for true legends, myths and romanticism to rear it's head.

many people hold duran as the best lightweight of all time, but due to whitakers style id say he could very well beat him.. but i still think duran by a slight edge

Wow, now this is a fantasy fight. Roberto seems almost invincible at LW, with Pernell probably being one of only a handful of people in boxing history that could take him at that weight class. Duran always had problems with defensive tricksters, and none were ever more elusive than Whitaker (I've seen plenty of Pep videos, and I'm sorry but Sweet Pea's athleticism and elusivity are in another class.)

The thing that gives Duran a good chance is that Sweet Pea didn't really have too much power. It'd be the perfect stylistic matchup which I'd honestly call a toss up at LW or WW....
