I would keep an eye on Heavy weight prospect Mike Perez. He hails from Cuba by way of Cork, Ireland and he has not had too difficult an opponent yet. If he can step it up and maintain his speed and power I think he could be a threat.
Pulev and Helenius are my picks, along with Boytsov who pormises to show more power now that he has had his hand surgery. What do you think of Gerber and Charr?
Helenius is only 26 years old, and has has 12 (soon to be 13) fights- some against decent guys- in just two years. Heavies of his height don't physcially mature until they are 30-ish. He has all the time in the world. Solis gets fatter for every fights. He could get his weight down, but he has shown no inclination to do so. And he is just the opposite- at 6"1 and already 30 years old, he is as prime as he is going to get and its now or never. Since loosing massive amounts of weight can sap your strength, I would say he had a very narrow window of opportunity to right his course. I am one America who has big hopes for Deontay, but he has not fight anyone with a pulse, and its just too early to tell. Agree about Boytsov, although I like Helenius and Pulev equally. Since at 24, 26, and 28 respectively, this could be a good nucleus for a post-Klitschko division in a few more years.
As far as emerging contenders goes I like. Denis Boytsov. From what I have seen on you tube. I have been nothing but impresed. Odlanier Solis. Has all the skills I worry about his weight. Alexander Povetkin. He has some very good wins but I'm not 100% sold on him in the long term. Even though they have had shots at a championship I would not count out. Chris Arreola Eddie Chambers Kevin Johnson I don't think any of the above were ready for their championship shots when they got them. I can see each of these guys getting another shot. Perhaps with some more seasoning they will do better next time. Former or current heavyweight champions who still have something left. David Haye Holds the WBA chmpionship is still "young" at 29. Samuel Peter When Petter brings his "A"game he is pretty good. Will it be enough to win his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko? Who he knockd down 3 times? My guess is no Wald has improved sense than. Ruslan Chagaev. With a clean bill of health I think he can make one more run. "old" guys who may get one more chance. Tony Thompson Juan Carlos Gomez Both Thompson and Gomez a former Crusierweight champion are running out of time. Champions from other divisions who could move up. Tomasz Adamek* Beating Michael Grant really wont prove anything losing to him will however will. Steve Cunningham He's 34 and dose not have a high KO% but at 6'3" he could probably comfortably make heavyweight Yoan Pablo Hernandez He is 29 and 6'4". Like Cunningham I am guessing based on his height. Chad Dawson. Dawson is coming off a loss. He is still a very good boxer. I can't see him staying at 175 for his whole career. Long term investments. High risk, high reward. Deontay Wilder Seth Mitchell Mike Perez Robert Helenius Kubrat Pulev Sam Sexton Who knows I may have left someone out or you may think someone who I likste should not be on this list. It will most likely be 4-5 years before we know for sure. I am higest on the Ameracians Wilder who I think has all the tools to be a champion and Mitchel who got in to boxing kind of late he has a background in football. Was an NCAA All-American Linebacker. I have seen him fight. Because he has not been boxing since he was a kid he may be the higest risk. He has good skills. I also think his college football ground he played at Michigan State. Big 10 schools play in 100,000 seat stadiums. He should not be jolted by hostile crowds. I also like Perez. He's young at 24. He also dose not seem to have weight issues like Solis dose. I think that right now Helenius, Pulev and Sexton have better resumes. I think that over time Wilder, Mitchel and Perez are going to emerge as the best of this group. * Already fights at heavyweight. I don't know what to expect long term. A long as the Brothers Klitschko are still active. They are going to be very hard to dethrone.
