I agree, it seems you can draft over any random african to fight for that belt as a challenger, do they even use rankings?

The English belt looks shite btw, looks like an home-made belt i would of made when i was a kid or summat.

Gaz is right, the lonsdale is a striking belt and is held in high esteem by all in the trade, khan for instance would of had to fight the likes of thaxton, murray and gethin att. Brilliant belt and great guidelines to gain one.

Thing is, I can't help thinking when I look at the Lonsdale:

'**** me, that lonsdale was an ugly ****.'

I can't help it. I want to admire the belt's aesthetic quality, but I can't because of that blokes big gurning mug in the middle of it.

If the promoters looked outside Africa for opponents to challenge for the Commonwealth belt there would be next to no British boxers holding the title. God forbid they got some well schooled Aussies or Canadians to challenge for it instead of African farmers.

I have nothing against Funtime Frankie, I think he'll be a world beater one day, but I just hate the two main marketing tools in boxing just now. A fighter with the "0" and "title" fights, god forbid a show could be based around good fighters in good match ups  rather than some of the pointless tin straps available to anyone willing to pay a sanctioning fee.

As has already been said here the BBBofC do a great job with the Lonsdale belt, its one of the few titles in boxing which a fighter has to truly deserve a shot at, and I love how even a champion has to earn the right to keep the belt it adds a real value to the belt.

I know what you're saying pal.

Jamie Moore made a good point in last weeks 'State of the Game' interview in last weeks BN.

He said he worried whether or not Sky would have picked his fight with Rhodes up if it hadn't have been an eliminator and just a normal fight. He said he hoped it would have been but you have to wonder.

I can't remember the last decent televised bill on Sky that didn't have any titles attatched to it..... Come to think of it I can't remember any let alone 'decent'

To give it more prestige I think we should revert to calling it Empire instead of Commonwealth:deal

It'd be great to see the Commonwealth Title revert get back the prestige it once had. As mentioned, having Aussies and Canucks fighting for it would sure help.

Can someone explain to me what the British Masters title is? As a boxing fan from Down Under, I've never figured out what the go is with that title...

Its just a journey mans belt

In my opinion the worth of belts goes:

    WBC/WBA
    IBF/WBO/IBO
    EBU
    Lonsdale
    Commonwealth
    English title
    WBU
    BBBofC area belts (Scottish/northern/central/southern)
    British Masters

I regard everything below the Commonwealth as belt for journeymen part-time fighter, no disrespect to any of the guys fighting for those belts as anyone who can dedicate a portion of their life to a combat sport deserves credit but they're not the belts top drawer pros would be looking at fighting for
