Famous Boxers Brothers

Split up in an ugly manner? I'm surprised they made it out alive. And speaking of the Waters brothers, what the hell are they putting in the drinking water in Australia?

 

Sad thing about Dave Sands is that he died in a motor accident in his mid 20's (26 I think) without being able to completely fulfil his potential. Nonetheless he can be remembered for some of his great victories, including the two over Olson.

 

Dean Waters Trial
In 1997, the national attention focused on the successful verdict given in the highly publicized “Dean Waters Case”. The accused, Dean Waters, was one of three brothers, who were all famous boxers in their own right, who were trained by their father, Ces Waters, who together with the eldest sister, Tracey Waters, formed a “family dynasty in boxing”. Dean Waters was originally charged with murder in 1988 but not committed for trial. He later came forward entirely of his own volition in 1996 to confess his guilt. Notwithstanding his confession, a psychiatric defence was run at trial and he was acquitted and walked out a free man!

 

Well, if he wasn't worthy of a psychiatric defense in 1988, I'll bet he was after carrying that guilt around for eight years. Sounds like a colorful family.

The 3 brothers, and most likely the sister too, seemed to be good kids. The mother either wasn't around, or at least wasn't around later on. The old man was the problem!

Anyway, the positive was they were all excellent boxers and achieved quite a lot. Troy in particular was close enough to world class.

 

Simon Eubank was the other boxing brother.

 

Jacqui Frazier's BROTHER, Marvis, had a career.

 

I read a good article about him a few months back, he was asked whether he regretted being rushed and he said he had a career ending eye problem that was getting worse and he was unsure of how long he'd get in the game, the title fight was 'now or never' chance he had to take.

Yeah, I wasn't being sarcastic about it. You should know some of the colorful families I've seen, my own not totally excluded. It's funny, 'cause you're right, the old man probably was the problem, but he was what made them special in the first place, right? The things that make us are the same things that can do us in if we have no self-awareness. It's always a tightrope walk, a game of friggin' millimeters! And if the old man would have been different or would have disappeared just after the last birth, chances are you never would have heard a word about any of them, ever, for good or for bad!

 

Floyd Patterson had a brother Ray Patterson seven years younger than Floyd who was also a heavyweight. He won the N.Y. Gloves is 1961 and fought pro from 1963 to 1973. He fought the likes of Joe Bugner and Chuck Wepner. Also, Ali had a brother also a heavyweight named Rudolph Valentino Clay. He changed his name to Rahman Ali.
