ps. pleeas unban Head if he's been banned. This place aint a patch on what it once was, but at least we still got Headbanger (funniest poster since Anglo for a few of us regulars)

calzaghe was an excellent boxer, and even though his Hopkins win was one of his best, he still waited until both jones and Hopkins were dethroned and in their 40s before fighting them

a man, no matter how talented, who only beat one proven world class fighter in his prime, is not "great"

jermain taylor's "moment of greatness" (as you rightly put it), is there because he was the man who dethroned Bernard Hopkins.

calzaghe had many, many years to try it himself

Calzaghe is an Enigma. He rarely stepped up to the plate, yet when he did, he delivered

His wins over Hopkins (who was very much at his brilliant best regardless of age) and Kessler (who was an absolute monster) show just what he was capable of when tested

Along with Lewis, the Best British boxer we'll see for many a year.

I don't think he was an enigma, but he certainly was better than he 'dared to be'..and also better than how he will be remembered

nobody at over 40 years of age is at their "brilliant best" though - nobody

Kessler was a puncher, but not a 'monster'. there have been no monsters at SMW that I can remember if you mean KO power

Then you've basically dismissed Joe's two best wins

    How noble of you

I've told you before on different threads, Calzaghe did not do rematches unless he was forced to, and the whole bloody world knew it. The only rematch he'd ever had in his entire pro career was one the WBO forced him to have against a mandatory opponent.

So the explanation is: of course there was no rematch! It wasn't Calzaghe's style to give rematches! And you'd know that if knew anything at all about his career!

It is not a middle finger to Calzaghe's fans because his fan knew him well enough to know that there would not be a bloody rematch, and nobody was expecting there to be a bloody rematch.

The fact that Hopkins wanted one after losing and that you cannot accept reality that Calzaghe wasn't voluntarilly going to give him one does not make his decision not to have one an insult to his fans.

It's certainly not his appearance on Celebrity Masterchef, that's for sure.

Lacy, Calzaghe dominated him when everyone thought Lacy was some sort of unstoppable beast.

In retrospect Hopkins/Kessler were better wins but the Hopkins fight was messy and the Kessler fight was close for the first half.

I came on here today actually expecting someone to make some joke about how Calzaghe had to pull out of a Masterchef challenge with a hand injury.
