A dangerous thread to make, I know. :D

I suspect that Fedor is getting a tad overrated by those in the MMA world. Yes, he probably has the best legacy of any MMA heavyweight, and did manage to defeat both Crocop and Nogueira--the latter repeatedly. I would also be the first to admit that he is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the game today, and his adaptability is a thing of beauty.

However, a few things must be borne in mind. He has been inactive as of late, and has not fought a truly top-tier heavyweight since Crocop. Moreover, we are entering a new era of the heavyweight division, where the best from both the UFC and PRIDE are able to contend against one another. We are on the threshold of seeing a new undisputed champion of MMA, and Fedor has not yet achieved that distinction--he has dominated what is, in essence, half of the division. The better half, but still half.

Fedor has already clearly established himself as the best MMA heavyweight during the early 2000's era. Arguably the best heavyweight of all time thus far. But if he does not manage to win the unification bout, history may remember him only as the best of the pre-unified champions--a standout fighter during an era of fragmentation, but not "the man" in the same sense that the first undisputed champion will be. To draw a boxing analogy, a bit more like Wladimir Klitschko than Lennox Lewis.

Now feel free to rip me to shreds. :good

I agree - he needs to get his undecided ass in gear.
To be the best you need to beat the best.
At the moment the best are in the UFC, if he wants to be seen as the greatest fighter in the world he needs to take on the best in the world, why he never fought Barnett i don't know?

Hopefully he comes to the UFC and beats up everyone before he grows too old to compete at the top level.

He isnt 'undecided', his managment is arranging his contract so he dosnt get screwed by the jew boy Dana. You have to remember this is his livlihood, it isnt somthign he just does on the side part-time, if his contract isnt appropriate he wont join neither would any reasonable person.

Of course we would all like to see him fight more often but at the end of the day he has his family and his career to consider while we only have entertainment to consider.

Some people are always going to be blind and think of some fighters as invincible. I ama Fedor fan no doubt. He has been my guy long before the the newer MMA craze too over. I really hope he comes to UFC and dominate.

Well i partially agree with cross. First, he beat THE best at the time. Barnett always lost the deciding fight that would give him shot at fedor. Hance they never fought. He is the most dominant because he has beaten the best and every style out there. Which is very hard to accomplish, as we all know. "The greatest ever" is a bit overrated but counting from 1990's(MMA slowly rising) it is arguable.
The greatness should count considering the time. Pele is considered greatest because he was so ahead of his time. If Pele would play today's soccer he would not do nearly as well. Sports evolve. Especially MMA right now. Fedor is greatest ever is because he is the most well rounded in unevolved sport. He is far ahead of this time.
IE, how much you wanna bet im smarter than Pythagor ever was?

*EDIT* If he legitemely loses the unification(not by lucky Fujita swing, or a cut), than he is just a dominant HW, _one_ of the best.

By many people yes he is, anytime he is brought up some people just think its an automatic win, but thats not to say he isn't the best.
