What has he done to deserve the celebrity and fortune he has gained in our beloved sport. It feels like he has been on the fringe of stardom in the boxing world for ten or so years while accomplishing nothing. I have lived on the east coast my entire life and have never met a Vargas fan, so my question is: Who is a Vargas fan and why? Is it just his image u admire? In my mind Vargas sucks and he keeps getting bones thrown his way.

    He was a USA Olympian
He has fought absolute wars with Trinidad, De La Hoya, Campas, and others.
He gives it is all every time out- NO EXCUSES
He has beat Marquez, Campas, Wright, Quartey, and Castijello

What more do you want of him

That is why he is so popular, check the facts before u write stuff like that

What people love about Vargas is that you never know who will win in his fights. Also he has won some rounds from the best of boxing like Oscar, Tito, Mosley and Winky

He got his ass kicked in his major fights. Check YOUR facts. Don't need your flame. Just want to know why he has so many fans and why.

Cool man. I can see your arument, when i look at individual rounds. I just never felt FV was a true "prime time player", Kind of reminds me of the 04' US olmypians who don't deserve their press.....Well not that bad ;)

Stupid question. Just look at his record.

Plus, being loved etc isn't just about what you do, it is about who you are. Some (like kirk) love certain aspects of him as a person. Same as Hatton.

Fernando's got the personality, and he's also an entertaining fighter to watch. The mainstream like fighters who are willing to take a gamble, or two during fights, and Vargas was more than willing to take his share of them. But he still didn't shy away from the sweet-science when he needed it, he just didn't mind standing and trading, either. He was the total-package, unfortunately he just didn't have that extra something to take his game to the next level and defeat the very top fighters, but he still gave some damn memorable performances.

Thats it right there. Add to this that he was very much in the Trinidad and DLH fights and you have your answer.

I am not a Vargas fan, due mostly to his personality and conduct outside of the ring, but I respect what he accomplished as a fighter. He's been in some memorable bouts, and even though he came up on the losing end of most of his big fights, he gave a good effort. Plus he was a title holder early in his career and has wins over Wright and Quartey. The steroid thing is disturbing, but I can see why he has fans.

My boy Rick is a huge Vargas fan. I never understood why. He always would get hyped for big Vargas fights, and of course always had to see his guy get knocked out.

Vargas was a dang good fighter. He was a world champion and he got a decision over Winky Wright. He gave Hoya and Trinidad great fights, he even put Trinidad on the deck. He probably won't win a title again but who knows. I know Kirk is a big fan of his.

The reason you haven't met many vargas fans on the east coast
is because he's west coast fighter where they have had wayyyy more success in recent years than east coast fighters. They're just jealous.
As far as vargas success. He's earned it!
    Oh. And south fla sucks!
