The Pryor and Gomez thread made me wonder... Which fighters were brought down by cocaine use / addiction? Who would've had a longer and more accomplished career if not for coke? I could be wrong about some of these guys being users, but... Michael Dokes? Donald Curry? Gerry Cooney? Tony Tubbs? Sugar Ray Leonard? Alexis Arguello?
Dokes had over 8 ounces of the stuff at his house when it was raided once, and he wasn't selling it. Tyson was literally smoking powdered cocaine in cigarettes because he couldn't physically snort anymore. It's probably had a negative effect on more careers than any other drug, at least in America.
Basically, everyone who was on the Muhammad Ali Boxing Club. That's how Harold Smith (Ross Fields) recruited amateur boxers. He paid them from the money he stole from Wells Fargo, threw big parties, and supplied them with coke. Tony Tubbs. Tony Tucker. Jeff Stoudemire.
I've been wondering whether any corner men gave cocaine elixirs to their fighters in between rounds, back when cocaine was legal.
