March 1, 1791, a pitched battle took place at Stockbridge, in Hampshire, between a father and son ; and, after a severe contest of forty-six minutes, was decided in favour of the father. A great number of people were present, amongst whom were many gentlemen, who made a handsome collection for the victor.

One day last month (October, 1797), a most unnatural contest for strength and agility took place between father and son, at Maldon, in Essex, which ended in a severe battle, and both are so exceedingly bruised, that they keep their beds.
