Fitzsimmons P4P Ranking

Most of these men were not really the leading contenders at the time Fitz was coming up or champion. Fitz had moved to lightheavy by the time McVea came along. Frankly, I think a better question is why did he fight Johnson at all? He was 44 and 20 to 30 pounds lighter. I would have advised him to either just retire and pad his record with tenth raters for whatever paydays he could get (the way washed up old fighters do it today)

To be honest with you it is hard to say how good or bad these guys were with the available records.

I am not saying that they were world beaters but Con Coughlin has a record of something like 0-3 on boxrec when he fought Fitzsimmons and it apears from contemporary papers that he was at least a fringe contender. Peter Maher was acused of avoiding him and he was said to have handeled Peter Jackson in sparring.

 

I told you I rate Bob Fitzsimmons in top 25 p4p. I told you my reasons why he is not higher. I think him, along with most fighters of the time had a bareknuckle type style...and I think boxing progressed ALOT from 1940-onward...and I don't think fitz would do that well fighting with that style in the more modern eras.

I dont rate alot of white fighters highly in the early part of the century, because alot of them drew the color line. I find a resume without top black fighters of the era on it, sorely lacking....I penalize both Tunney and Dempsey alot for this. James J Corbett taking on Peter Jackson was one of the gutsiest displays of the era....


Just imagine if Marciano drew the color line? Imagine what his resume would look like? just imagine how much modern critics would be all over his ass!

Imagine if Willie Pep drew the color line against Sandy Saddler?

Imagine if Jake Lamotta drew the color line once he was middleweight champion thus preventing sugar ray from a shot?

One thing I love about ESB, I can unload all the anger from stress out on people in here without worrying about hurting there feelings...since I dont know them, nor will I ever meet them. Allows me to enjoy a stress free enjoyable day/week with my REAL friends/family getting it all out. Believe it or not, in real life im one of the nicest guys.....On ESB I have a Dr. Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde persona that easily gets ticked off. I am convinced ESB brings out the worst in me. I might just forget about boxing all together.

 

I wouldnt talk about what other posters think of me...as quite a few posters have expressed there opinion of you too.

Your saying this isnt personel? If thats not, then this isnt either.....You dont have much knowledge when it comes to boxing which is why you constantly flood the forums with ridiculous irritating questions/threads. Do you have any expertise on a particular era?

Dont you have enough of your own problems like confidence issues? Needing to post pictures of yourself with your shirt off online to gain respect.

I have a much better background than you do when it comes to boxing historians...In fact I was a member of IBRO boxing historian organization for 2 years, have been specially credited with Research help by boxing historians on Sonny Liston Articles, remain a close contact with quite a few knowledgable famous historians, and I have posted numerous new film to youtube/and numerous rare articles /newspaper articles to this forum/boxrec/cyberboxingzone.

Now what have you one besides ask 1,000 annoying questions flooding the forums everyday? I hope your taking in the information these fine posters have been giving you.

Janitor....I was reading up the other day on Fitz-Corbett fight. Apparently....Fitzsimmons wife fueled with anger of seeing her husband floored/outboxed....Yelled up into the the ring "Hit him in the slats bob!!!" LOL I always found that funny....A wife cheering for a andrew golota esq combination! After the fight Corbett apparently angry of getting knocked out by a sucker punch told Fitz he was going to come after him in the street. Fitz said "If you ever touch my outside the ring, I will kill you."
