What you needed to do is step past his left shoulder and drive the left hook into his shoulder /throat area. this negates the shoulder roll and the counter right.
He actually blocks/covers the body very well on the inside. I kinda know what youre saying cause I remember him making weird facial expressions when him and hatton were tied up and hatton was trying to get to the body but PBF was blocking a lot of it on the inside. When he keeps his hands low the arms cover the body well and his head is tucked behind the shoulder and his head movement slips the shots up there while the body is also covered. Then he sticks out that elbow (foul move) and backs them up in position right where he wants them and sets up his shots. Very crafty fighter.
Floyd Mayweather is possibly a perfect defensive fighter. There are no holes in his defense from what I cans see...but you can't win a fight purely on defense, and one of the ways I always thought Pacquiao could beat him would be to force him to be overly defensive, similar to some of the early success De La Hoya had against Floyd. If there is a weakness in Floyd's defense, its that at times, he uses it a bit too much.
So I guess you think Pac was a cherrypicker for fighting a DLH 7 years past his prime and making him come down in weight. Just wondering, lol.
you beat me to it. Not to mention when DLH fought floyd, he was THE 154 lb champ and coming off a beatdown of mayorga. MUCH better version of DLH than the one pac fought. You could say the same about hatton.
Correct but there was 2 years in between. DLH didn't look the same fighter from the Floyd fight against Forbes let alone against Pac and another 7 pounds south.
I think if he fought a tall Welterweight with a jab you would see the weaknesses in his style. That is obviously very relative and his 'd' is generally pretty incredible.
I think it helps to be a tall boxer or at least have a longer reach than Mayweather to beat him. The biggest mistake that his opoents make is trying to take the fight to him. Make him come to you. He is at his best when he is counterpunching. His defense is desinged to bait you in. Pick your spots throw 1-4 punches and get out. Repeat this throughout the fight. Don't stand and trade with him. Make him relay on his jab. I think the only thing I don't like about the Philly-Shel Defense is that while it gives the rear cross some extra power it can take away any power in the jab.
True, but, he was lucky that was only Marquez. If it was somebody else like Mosley, he would of been on the canvas by now.
