For those of you who may not have been alive to see this incredible slugfest, here it is. One of the most bruising fights you will ever see. They both were a punch away from victory.

    RIP, George.

Howard Cosell makes me laugh. He was an awful commentator but somehow a great one at the same time.

Larry Holmes' biggest accomplishment - freeing the world of boxing from Howard Cosell, lol.

One of my favorite fights, this is exactly what I appreciate in boxing.

"This isn't artistic but it is slugging!"

Classic line from Cossell. Indeed the fight lacked some finesse but it was definitely an incredible classic HW slugfest.

I’m one of the few that actually enjoy his calls. Doesn’t need to describe every single fkn punch being thrown unlike today’s comms teams for the most part. Sure he got some calls wrong but I enjoyed his style. A man of his time I guess.

An unbridled Lyle likely landed his hardest punches ever on George.

Lyle didn’t always seem to utilise his power to it’s full potential (confidence issues?) - but he did in this fight and he also unloaded big time on Shavers when his back was to the wall.

I actually rewatched this fight a few nights ago. One of the best I’ve ever seen.

I love his calls but if you aren’t actually watching the fight and are just relying on Cosell to paint a picture of what is going on then you’d have not a single clue as to how the fight is playing out.
