i would consider cooney a forgotten hard puncher. add him to the list :rofl . it's not like he's julian jackson or earnie shavers, or george foreman, some of the names you regularly hear when people discuss punchers. part of it is that he's not as much of a hitter as those men, and part of it is that his accomplishments as a puncher can go forgotten, which lends to people forgetting how hard he could punch. forgotten puncher. when you ask for "slicksters" most people don't go all the way back to the turn of the century, as per gans and johnson. but if you watch the tape, they're slick. benny leonard is generally looked at as a pure boxer, which i'd say isn't fair. he was a cutie who had a good punch. slickster and boxer are not the same thing, at least not in my estimation. a slickster is essentially trying to trick an opponent. boxers try and establish a tempo, often through a jab and foot movement. boxers generally act first, slicksters generally act last. are you asking for forgotten fighters who are slick, or forgotten slickness in fighters? if it's the former then obviously they don't apply. if it's the latter, though, then i'd argue that these slicksters don't get the credit they deserve.
