They always start about 3pm and have 25 fights on or whatever. Obviously all the prospects are on earlier but they’re fighting in empty arenas and not on tv so it’s hardly the most beneficial. Would he benefit from having his own sort of next gen cards which he could maybe put Boxnation?
by the time the main events come on I am wanting to go to bed - its just not entertaining but matchroom shows are mostly the same with early starts and lots of fights
I’m not trying to say these shoes are **** and matchrooms are great. I’m just saying from a business point of view it could work out a lot better for frank.
Agreed on this, even throwing on Wednesday night boxing cards with these. Could be ideal for BT to fill a midweek evening with live sport.
They used to do ‘box academy’ which was way before nxtgen. I assume it doesn’t pay to do it. His lads get out on Ayling and Mcclorly cards as well like next week.
It’s not a criticism of his show last night more the handling of his prospects. If I turned around to someone and said oh Sunny Edwards won yesterday they’d probably respond “who?”. Sunny has a stellar amateur career and can box but he was on at like 5pm so can anyone on actually say they watched it live? Compare him to the likes of Okolie. Okolie was an Olympian (not a very good one) yes but Sunny is 8-0 and Okolie 9-0, the difference in profile between them with one fight difference is catastrophic and that’s largely down to the exposure Okolie got from being on the next gen cards and then actually being televised at a half reasonable time on big undercards. Would it do any harm for the likes of Sunny Edwards to be a main event on a small hall show on a quiet Saturday during the summer with no other boxing on and no footy on? Put it on boxnation and I’m sure people would tune in. They pay for the channel for boxing so I’m sure they’d appreciate the extra content! Then the fighters profiles grow too. It’s win - win?
They both provide tosh sometimes, in point of fact most of the times and they are mostly noisy when the obligatory crowd fight starts.
I suppose the reason there's so many fights is financial. A fighter at the start of his career v a journeyman will coast a comparatively small amount to put on a card (I'm guessing around £1,200). If they sell fifty tickets the promoter's in profit. Plus the more people in the arena, the better the atmosphere.
