I think he's a little underrated, you don't really see his name brought up at all. I think he should be remembered as one of the better heavyweights of the era. He has wins over some good oposition including: Sam Langford, Porky Dan Flynn, Fireman Jim Flynn, Charley Weinert, Carl Morris and Gunboat Smith. Also, a lot of his losses came when he was past his prime and a few by DQ.
I’ve heard him described as having an exceptional jab, and he must have had good power also as he has knockout victory’s over some fairly durable opponents and he made Ring's list of the 100 greatest punchers. evidently his greatest weakness was his chin.

Fred Fulton is in many ways the prototype of the modern superheavyweight. Tall and rangy using the jab as the primary weapon.

Like many of them his main weakness was his lack of durability.

If he were fighting today he would probably come in at 230-240 lbs, which might improve his durability.

Fulton was not a modern prototype for a super heavy. He was stiff, and not very durable. I am not sure if adding a few pounds improves Fulton's durability by much. Maybe it will by a little, but it will cost him a little speed, flexibility and stamina so the trade of might not help him.

Fred Fulton was tall, possessed a very good jab and a hard right.

The durability issues seem to be the central problem with Fulton.

He was KOED a number of times.

I wonder how Fulton would have done against the 1915-1916 era
Jack Johnson. Could Fulton have beaten an out of shape Johnson?

He was probably a very good boxer/puncher but he it seems he was chinny, and being chinny is a severe handicap at heavyweight.

Clearly a top contender in his day.

Probably the 2nd best hw in the world when dempsey destroyed him behind only wills.

In terms of white rankings he'll have been number 2 behind willard but the guy was inactive so i'd personally rate him below fulton based on resume, activity and skillset.

In truth his main purpose is served in showing how jack does against genuine hw's. Him, willard and firpo were all **** but very highly ranked at the time of the fights. They're just there to show dempsey can compete with those who grossly outweigh him.

He'll be remembered as a top contender and measuring stick for future matchups.

He beat Sam Langford.
Most people say that was a legit result, so he must have been decent.

**** is the wrong word.

In context of his era he was one of the top men.

In more modern era's I don't think he'd have been a top ten mainstay.
