I guess that's sarcasm? He is into his 30s and his talent is wasting. I say he is going downhill unless he picks it up again. A few years ago he was on the P4P list and being called the Mike Tyson of the lower weights. He has fought a handful of times in the last few years and has no marquee names or fights on his record to speak of. He has looked pretty bad in his last two fights considering where he was a few years ago, looking somewhat vunerable in decision victories. The lightweight division is weak at the moment which is bad for him in a way because he needs some good wins to propel his career forward again: I don't see that many fights out there for him, especially now that Broner has gone up
Farrenas should have been a big warning, guys at 130 can take his power and can bang back. At 135 he's in trouble.
He is squandering his career. Guy has too much talent to be fighting bums and not getting big money. I just don't understand what's going on. Arum screwed the pooch by not having him fight Lopez a few years ago...I just don't know. Think signing with 50 cent was a bone head move too. I'd like to see Gamboa fight Garcia or some of the top guys at 135
Not very often you see a guys career plummet like Gamboa's has while they are still undefeated and talented. Just bizarre. But from him not getting the Lopez fight in time, to not taking the Rios fight, to signing with 50.... its just one bad move after another in the career of Gamboa.
He's with the wrong promotional team, plain and simple. At this point I thought he'd have some career-defining fights against elite level fighters from 126-135, but his career is currently in a state of inertia, and who knows how much longer he has in boxing. He's already 31.
There's only one guy who can promote you the right way along if you're a super star potential and that Arum...love him or hate him. Gamboa should have just stood with Arum and let work his magic. Fighter like Gamboa should be making 1m plus a fight by now.

He's got a ton of talent but he's in the wrong weight class, plain and simple. Guys at 135 and up are just two big for him and his inability to infight will make it difficult for him to live up to 50's expectations.
These. I've long doubted Gamboa ever approaching the lofty predictions most made for him. Too chinny and he wasn't ever that good that people should think he'd have gone undefeated had he fought top 10'ers twice a year for the past 3 years. Couple of good notable wins but then nothing on his resume. He was more of a fad than someone who left there mark on the sport.
