Gamboa v Burns

To be honest if Ricky could have got past the first few rounds then Gamboa really runs out of ideas and out of breath!! But i suppose if it's the Ricky of 18 months ago or the one fighting with very little confidence at the minute.

I really believe the Ricky before Beltran would have beat Gamboa by boxing his way to victory but the ricky now would cover up too much and get beaten on points!!

 

Before Beltran or before Gonzalez? Burns didn't look good in that fight either and was pretty lucky that Gonzalez pulled out with an injury.

But I don't think Burns could have ever beaten Gamboa.

 

I've absolutely no faith in Burns beating anybody of note from here on in. He was given a gimme on Saturday night and still managed to look like shít. Stick a fork in him for me, he's done.

 

Imo Gonzalez was one of that fights where you couldn't get much information or video of him and he turned out to be much better than anyone expected!! I have watched much more of Gamboa and think he is beatable, after 4 rounds his power and work rate deteriorates very quickly and he also doesn't have anything more than a plan A, he is a one trick pony.

Before the Beltran fight I would have expected Ricky to do a similar job on Gamboa as he did with Rocky Martinez, lose the first couple but come on strong late in the fight and win on points. Gamboa imo would have the engine that Ray Beltran had to continue to pin Ricky against the ropes.

 

Going on the demise over the last 5 fights since Mitchell im really struggling to see what level ricky belongs at and believe me as a big burns fan its not nice to see this as ive been at all of rickys fights apart from cook and katsidis since the alex arthur days

I think that Gamboa would have beat Ricky on points and I am Scottish. Ricky at his peak when beating fringe world class opponents like Kastidas and Mitchell would have ran Gamboa close but would have fell just short. The blot on Gamboa's record is how it took till the 2nd round to beat Samuel Kadebe, who Scott Harrison beat in 59 seonds because that guy is shocking beyond words

 

Burns is simply wasn't ever world class , a nice kid with a good attitude . The only fighter close to real world level that he beat was Martinez and I had that a draw.

Ricky 18 months ago would have beat Gamboa on points but these days I wouldn't be confident, Solaris why do you need to create a new thread anytime someone disagrees with you or you just find a new way to slag off British fighters? It's boring after a while no wonder people get sick of this place.

Who said that? I've only ever seen Billy say that on here but of course he was going to say that at the time because he was Ricky's trainer he's hardly going to say "Oh Ricky is a world champion but he's not the best in the world" That wouldn't be giving your fighter confidence would it?

Ricky fought Crawford who I now believe to be the best at LW and he didn't get sparked like Gamboa which is a credit to his heart and fitness and having a solid chin and let's be honest for all Crawford was clearly the better fighter there was only 4 rounds in the fight I scored it 116-112 along with 2 of the judges so it wasn't like Ricky was beaten 11-1 or anything like that he was competitive in the fight although the classier work was coming from Crawford.

So as I said earlier the Ricky who fought Katsidis and Mitchell would run Gamboa close and possibly nick it on points but this version of Ricky would lose on points with a knockdown or 2 along the way.

 

No version of Burns beats Gamboa. He's too quick and too skilful for burns. He doesn't have the power to knock him out and Gamboa's movement would give him fits. Gamboa was doing a good job on Crawford for the first couple of rounds.
