Gardner has a nice left hand.

    Other than that, bit underwhelming.

Shut up stupid. Lovely to see! Just a bit of a disappointment, you know, you have visions in your head, see the guy for the first time...

    What did you think?

I think you are a little hard on Garnder there.

He seems to fight out of a more straight up stance to be, a little bit like Bob Foster, and he used his left quite a bit to set up the right, which i thought was actually looped and telegraphed a bit. But it certainly landed with intent in the last round. I tend to think he looked a fair bit harder than it looks.

And why no discussion of Jack Root? He looked like a bit of a Bob Fitzsimmons style of fighter, in looks at least. He seems more of a shorter range fighter than Gardner and he really seemed to land with a bit more venom for most of the fight. Gardner though, did have a good tight in defence from the clinch position which seemed to stop him doing damage in close (from the limited footage).

I disagree that they were both underwhelming, I actually thought they looked pretty reasonable, though obviously foot positioning and styles stood out as being very different to todays fighting.

Root must have had some power ,he dropped Hart in their 2nd fight ,when he was conceding 19lbs, he also floored Kd McCoy 8 times in a fight.
I was just having the craic with Mac there.:good
