He wouldn't shut up about his intelligence and portfolio before the fight. as if there's anything smart about getting getting indebted up to your eyeballs on assets that have already shot up in price before you buy them. The good news is that the property market crashed so hopefully the **** is in negative equity.
I spoke to Gary Saturday night and he said that there's a lot more to come from Gavin. Remember, Lockett has only had him for one real training camp.
Agreed, he went into that fight believing he had no chance and I reckon he actually has the talent and the power to match Pav. Just a bit unfortunate that his career started so shakily with cuts and injuries etc but ultimately(to quote someone from the Murray/Ortiz thread) it was a case of a fighter fighting at a lower level for so long that when a big fight presents itself he wasnt ready mentally.
the politics in boxing, can sicken fighters, maybe thats not it , but he's doing ok as a trainer imo.
For someone like Lockett he might as well have been in there with the second coming of Ali. No movement, no defence he was always going to get crushed early.
Gary Lockett's gym is just over the road from me. He's the nearest our village has to a celebrity. Was never a fan of his but I really do think folk went over the top around Pavlick. These guys do put their lives on the line and are entitled to a pay day. I reckon I'd have done the same if I was a middling fighter who'd seen his best days; would have been silly not to have. It can't all be about the pride and glory we mythologise and celebrate in the few; for most it's a, dangerous, way to make a living. Surely?
True, but when a fighter gets the unexpected chance tochallenge for a world title against a decent champion like Pavlik, you'd expect some sort of pride and glory element would creep into it at some point, even if money is the main motivation. I wonder how Gary Lockett would have peformed if he was assured a huge bonus for knocking Pavlik out...
