There was only one Gavilan-Turner fight, but yeah it's arguably the best fight I've ever seen. The exchanges are unreal. Forget anyone that says fighters are faster now.

As I said in another thread, Gil Turner was a welterweight Meldrick Taylor. He had phenomenal ability. Gavilan shows great poise and a great chin in this one. The way he takes out Gil is all class.

Gavilan's finest hour IMO. One of his best all-around performances, and a thrilling, decisive win against an unbeaten, highly touted challenger.

I think they only fought once.
It has long been one of my favourite classic fights to watch. Lots of skill, lots of heart and ferociousness from both men. Quite a brutal ending.

    The full fight does exist.

I seen it plenty of times, great fight. One of my all time faves. Turner's battle with Carman is just as brutal.

my fault i got mixed up with Gavilan vs Graham.

Good comparison with Taylor he had very very fast hands and those flurries to the body looked brutal. I did like Gavilans composure in that one they was both seriously trading but The Kid picks his shots so well.

    Realy his best performance?

I have only seen this bout and the Basilio and Davey bouts what other ones is there to check out?

    yep

Als the way Gavilan takes out Turner is so brutal i cant beleive it

Have seen highlights have got the full fight on the way :happy

One thing; to those who say Gavilan is NOT a puncher. Watch this! Gavilan has enough power to get to anyone, this fight shows that (even if Turner himself is not an 'ATG')

Gavilan is STILL a very, very underrated puncher in my book. All I ever hear from dicks is 'duhhh, but he's only got like 30-something K.O's from a hundred something wins'

    The guy was a beast.

Gavilan can hit, Its just that most of the guys he face happen to have the best chins of all time about.

It would take a LOT of work to put Robinson or Carman down for a ten count.

Gav can hit but i think its more a combination of his speed, timing and accuracy not 'power' so to speak.

    He's a very sharp hitter

also thanks M2S for that list of fights to check out
