What do people think of this match? Personally i think that it is risky matchmaking for Gavin the guy is a big Welter and looks like a powerful one too totally opposite to what Gavin is. I think this is a very risky fight and one that Gavin has a reasonable chance of becoming unstuck in.
Gavin needs to fight fighters that are dangerous and this guy should be a nice stylistic fight for him. If Frankie doesn't perform then he have only himself to blame. He should like this fight and enjoy knowing this guys punches are hard and also fact guys undefeated he will hopefully come with attitude to win and not pick up paycheck. Frankie would prefer people to lead off on him so he can counter and make em pay. Mutley didn't do neither, Curtis was a blessing for Frankie he shocked him and made him see he needs to change. Fingers crossed for the lad i respect his change of mindset. Some wouldn't of changed a thing..
i like this fight, gavin hasn't been troubled by anyone but boredom tbh, i may be wrong but im sure he was on the welterweight limit for the lomax fight and looked good? so i dont think weights an issue for him, i just think he'd be better off at l.welter, and i think a fight like this will bring out the best in him, and i think the style of chaves will suit frankie
Haven't seen Chaves fight before but on paper it looks like he'll be a test for Gavin, it will either bring out the best in him or he'll be in trouble if he underperforms. Its exactly the sort of fight he needs.
Its a little worrying that Gavin even in his infant years as a pro " needs a test to get up for fighting " , i think thats a kop out TBH , clearly something is missing from Frankie at the minute , he was awful in his last outing and not much better against Mutley who he should of over whelmed and stopped Lets hope what ever is going wrong goes right some time soon
I thought this was a fantasy fight vs JCC Sr for a second. Think even Funtime would agree he'd have been battered like Enzo Mac's sausage at Mickey's Fish and Chip shop.
Theres a bit of him on Youtube. He looks pretty destructive against these lowly ranked opponents but the speed difference should be telling and Gavin should get through without many problems if he harbours hope of World glory. Hopefully Chaves can give Frankies chin and test and he doesn't look too shy to work the body either which is a good thing, pretty good test at this stage IMO.
Only one fighter in this fight has power and that is Chaves, if i can get good odds on a Chaves KO i will lump on it. Gavin might outbox this guy easily but i think its worth a gamble as Gavin hasn't exactly looked great recently or ever really lol. I personally don't think Gavin will fight this guy, prob fight some British guy with a KO ratio lower that 30%.
I think it's just the fight that Frankie needs. He knows he has to be at his best and I hope he gets the proper credit if he wins.
Does anyone know why this fight was eventually called off? Personally, from what I've seen of Chaves, he'd beat Gavin...in fact I think Chaves may well be the best prospect in division.
