Gene was disciplined and great enough to beat every one of them. I'd pay high dollar for Tunney vs. Louis. Woo, what a matchup!
I think Tunney would out point Louis. He's much more durable than Conn, and a better boxer than Farr, two boxer types who gave Joe Louis fits. In addition he hits harder than both Conn and Farr who rocked/ stunned Louis. Tunney a good mover / puncher, and very smart. Louis would not adjust. Liston would be Tunney's toughest match up.
He beats Max by decision Stop's Quarry on cuts late. Wins over Patterson by decision with 2 kds . Gets stopped in the tenth by Louis Gets stopped In the 8 th by Liston . Out points or stop's Schmeling in the last couple of rounds .
Tunney could really move on his legs when he wanted to, I don't think their is enough of a sample size to feel confident to go with Schmeling who while Great was a very stationary fighter. He destroyed guys who came at him to brawl, Risko, Walker, Uzcudon. Tunney by Decsion. Baer would have his head boxed off. Guys like Schaaf, Farr and Loughran all outboxed him. No reason to believe Tunney, better than all of them wouldn't. Louis. Epic match up. I'm a huge Louis guy but this would be a tough match up. 50/50 Quarry. Loses he lacked Gene's ring IQ. He would try to box and the fight would look like a stinker, Quarry would then come forward and be picked apart. Ali with movement made easy work of Quarry. While Gene doesn't possess Ali's height and size I think he follows same game plan and wins fairly easily. Patterson. Great match up. Patterson was prone to flash knockdowns I see him suffering one or two being the difference of a good fight. Liston's Poor footwork helps Gene for awhile but Listons overall size advantage might see him overwhelm Gene. 60/40 Liston
Max schmeling - Tunney UD Max Baer - Tunney UD Baer has a punchers chance like Liston Joe Louis - Could go either way, probably Louis late KO like the Conn fight Jerry quarry - Tunney UD Floyd Patterson - Tunney tko Sonny Liston - Tunney UD, Liston didn't have fast feet and Tunney can circle even faster than Ali.
Out of these, I see Tunney beating Schmeling, Quarry and Baer by unanimous decision. I see Liston blasting him into orbit at some point, Louis winning by KO at some point and the Patterson fight would be the one I'd want to see most of all. Not even going to make a call there, I think each would take a fight in what could end up being an all time trilogy for the ages.
