Any comments on George Benton the boxer? His defensive style might remind you of a certain contemporary fighter.

I guess what impresses me most is his balance. I know that's a boring answer, but considering how often he had all his weight, or all his functional punching weight on his backfoot, it's probably the right one.

He's so wonderfully relaxed, there's no tightness at all. Floyd, for example, sometimes tenses in anticipation of being hit sometimes, this guy is just as relaxed as they get. How lovely and how wonderful that it translated so completely to his instructional style.

One of yours I take it?

For a man of his size, it's incredibly really.

Who compares at 160 plus? Roy and that's it?

I threw it together from whatever footage I could find. There's not much, unfortunately.

I agree with you completely and it's one thing the commentators always talked about when Benton fought. His relaxed style worked against him sometimes, losing close decisions when opponents outworked him, but for the most part it served him well. As he himself put it, he was more focused making the others miss than landing with his own punches.

He was never knocked down I believe and he fought until 37 years of age, forced to retire only because he had been shot.

Beautiful to watch. I just love a guy who can stand right there in front of his opponent and just move a little this way or that way and make him miss, it looks so unreal, and he makes it look easy. Its freakin amazing!

His feints were lovely, really drew a man out. Up there in the class of Perkins for that great all rounders, technically speaking.
