He looked awful in his first fight! He is built very well but he slaps and was throwing very wide and slow hooks ,with his hands held low and doesnt have the power of his father. His opponent looked as tho he had been picked up from the local pub! Still its his first fight i guess...
He looked a lot like his dad in there, which isn't really a good sign. Reminds me of Marvis Frazier in that he tried to fight like his father. There's only one George Foreman and one Joe Frazier, no one can try to copy a certain fighters style and be very successful with it. If he turns out to be even as good as Marvis Frazier I'll be surprised, but I'll be rooting for him!
i think he's there for extra cash. it's just business, if he had the love for the sport he would have started much earlier..
i was disappointed to watch him fight. Sure hes young but imo his punches are too wide, he can hit but not anywhere near like his dad, he isnt quick or very skilled. Ill be rooting for him but i dont see him winning a belt.
This was the guy's first fight! He never even fought amateur, so he's diving right in to the pro ranks. Give the guy a chance to rack up 10-15 fights and to develop his skills. George Foreman senior had nearly 40 professional fights before he won the title, and he had at least 25 or so amateur fights to start with.
There are some good boxers who started late, but I do agree, Foreman is banking on pop's name and looking for cash. Who could blame him? They should have no problem feeding him a bunch of overweight bar tenders and bar room brawlers. If he follows his father's model from his 'second career', and stays active, he might be able to hone his skills. Wouldn't surprise me if he racks up a 20-0 record at some point, even if it's via the LaMar Clark route.
He should get a few years of amateur experience first. I guess they're just trying to build him up on his fathers name. There's a reason he's wearing the same trunks. Marketing. He has a business degree, that's great. I think he'd better using that in a conventional way.
